Since 2012 VAF has been administering a range of grants for the Community Safety Unit (CSU) of the Scottish Government which contribute to the national objective of "Our people and communities support and respect each other, exercising both their rights and responsibilities".

To support the drive to tackle intra Christian sectarianism in Scotland the Scottish Government established an Advisory Group in 2012 who published their final report in May 2015. The Advisory Group's initial advice to ministers was published in December 2013 and the Scottish Government published their response to the report in February 2014. All these reports can be found in the 'Reports' section further down this page.

For 2016-17 the Community Safety Unit has invested in delivering the recommendations from these reports through funding community based projects, which VAF will continue to support.

VAF’s work entails providing support to projects and organisations to demonstrate the difference their work makes to individuals and their communities and to support them develop sustainability, in whichever form is most appropriate to their situation.  In addition we provide networking opportunities where organisations can share emerging learning with each other and the officials from the Community Safety Unit.

Further information on the work of the funded projects can be found by visiting the Action on Sectarianism website https://www.actiononsectarianism.info/

National Discussion day 10 November 2014

Thank you to everyone who attended the National Discussion Day for the Tackling Sectarianism Programme at St Paul's and St George's in Edinburgh. General feedback from the day has been very positive and the quality of the discussion shows how far we have come as a programme in the short period the projects have been running.

Bill Weir's introduction to the day, which includes some of the statistics for 2013-14 can be found here.
